Photoshop is very famous nowadays. Every image editor knows about it. I think the file extension PSD (or .psd) is editable file format of Photoshop. Though Photoshop, aside from the file extension PSD, is also able to edit other image formats.

The best image editing tool so far invented is the Photoshop. Adobe is the current company which maintains this software. Fireworks is also another image editing software owned by Adobe. But still the Photoshop image editing tool is unrivaled. Now you know that the file extension PSD is a Photoshop file.

Adobe Fireworks, commonly referred as Fw, is a graphics or image editor. It was formerly owned and developed by Macromedia, which was in 2005 acquired by Adobe. Its latest release is the CS4 which is version 10.0, last September 23, 2008. The product was developed using the C++ language.

Currently, I am using Fireworks despite of the fame Adobe Photoshop has gained. Fireworks is as powerful as Photoshop. That is my humble opinion. I find Fireworks to be more user-friendly than Photoshop though the difference is not that big.

The software is not free. Therefore you need to buy its license usage for you to be able to exploit the product to its fullest.
