Ncurses

What is Ncurses? Is it about cursing spells? No. It is way too far different from that. Ncurses is a programming module which provides an application programming interface. Usually, this is being used by programmers who write applications in a terminal-independent manner. It is an aide for developing "GUI-like" programs which run on a terminal.

The "N" in Ncurses stands for "new." Because Ncurses as you might not know, is just an enhancement of its predecessor, the Curses. Ncurses is now being developed by the GNU Project people. Its latest release was in November 2, 2008. The current version is 5.7.

Me, myself, had also used this module. I used it when I developed a chat program to be run on a Linux terminal. One of the requirements for the chat application is a graphical interface which should similarly look like of that from Yahoo Messenger's. Fortunately I was able to take advantage of its module. I finally made my chat program.

Ncurses is a very awesome API library! You can make a dull-looking console application into a very colorful and lively application.
